Could you spare a few hours to help care for one of Amersham’s local woodlands? Volunteers are invited to help clear overgrown holly from Parsonage Wood, improving access and allowing more light and space for a greater variety of woodland plants to thrive.

Can you spot the bench beneath all that holly?

The Chiltern Society, working with the Old Amersham Community Action Group, is looking for volunteers to help care for Parsonage Wood in Amersham.

Holly is a valuable part of our native woodland, providing shelter and food for wildlife. However, when it becomes too dense, it can block paths and seating areas, reduce the light reaching the woodland floor and restrict the growth of other plants and young trees.

By selectively cutting back the overgrown holly, volunteers will help reopen areas of the wood, reveal mature trees, improve access and create better conditions for a wider variety of woodland plants and wildlife. It is practical work with a visible and lasting impact on a much-loved local green space.

The first session will take place on Tuesday 13 October, from 10am to 1pm, with further volunteering dates planned throughout the winter.

No previous experience is needed, and all tools and training will be provided. A first aider will also be present. The work is carried out using hand tools, making it a peaceful and sociable way to spend time outdoors, meet other local people and enjoy some gentle exercise while making a genuine difference.

Volunteers aged 16 and over are welcome. Even if you can only help for part of the session, your time will be greatly appreciated.
