A New Makers Market Is Coming to Amersham

A badge maker, a five-year-old and a simple idea to teach him a little about money and entrepreneurship – that’s where the story of the new Amersham Makers Market began.

After making badges together to sell at craft fairs, one local mum realised that while there were plenty of talented people making things in and around Amersham, there wasn’t really a regular outlet designed to help new makers take those first steps into selling their work.

She shared the idea with a group of mum friends from school and discovered something else: behind the busy reality of work and raising young families was a shared love of making and creating that many of them had quietly put to one side.

And so, Amersham Makers Market was born.

The very first market takes place on Saturday 19 September, from 10am–1pm at St Michael’s Church Hall on Sycamore Road, bringing together local makers and giving visitors the chance to discover something genuinely made close to home.

At the heart of the project is a desire to make selling accessible, particularly for people who are just starting out and don’t yet have an established brand or business. Membership for sellers costs just 5p for life, offering an unusually low-risk way for someone with a creative idea to give it a go.

There’s a wider philosophy behind the market too. Its founders want to champion sustainability, support other local businesses and encourage the kind of slower, more thoughtful shopping that connects us with the people who actually make the things we buy.

Amersham Makers Market is part of Country Markets Ltd, a not-for-profit organisation with more than 100 years of history supporting people to turn their skills into successful local businesses. The Amersham market will be run entirely by volunteers, with members working and selling collectively rather than simply turning up as individual stallholders.
