Gangsters, Showgirls and Gershwin: Top of the Town Comes to Old Amersham

Fancy stepping back into the glitz and glamour of the late 1940s for an evening?

From 30 September to 3 October, Old Amersham welcomes Top of the Town, a fast-paced musical comedy filled with gangsters, showgirls, backstage chaos and plenty of laughs.

Presented by local theatre company Ruff & Ready, this regional premiere comes from acclaimed West End playwright Roy Smiles, whose work includes Kurt & Sid at Trafalgar Studios. Top of the Town was originally performed at London’s iconic King’s Head Theatre and is now being reimagined for Amersham by director Alison Ruffell.

And the setting makes this production particularly special.

Rather than watching from a traditional auditorium, audiences will experience the show entirely in the round inside the beautiful historic wooden Quaker Meeting House on Whielden Street. With the action happening all around you and a strictly limited audience, every seat promises to feel wonderfully close to the performance.

A talented local cast will sing and dance their way through a soundtrack featuring the timeless music of Gershwin, Kern and more, bringing the glamour and energy of the era to life.

There is another very good reason to book a ticket too: all proceeds from the production will support Imagine This, the UK’s only charity dedicated solely to supporting the mental wellbeing of seriously ill children and their families.
