Amersham Concert Club Celebrates 60 Years of Music

Sixty years of bringing exceptional live music to Amersham is certainly something worth celebrating, and Amersham Concert Club is beginning its Diamond Anniversary season with a concert designed to do just that.

The new season opens on Saturday 26 September with Ensemble Serafin and a beautiful programme entitled Echoes of the Rhine.

Local cellist Nicola Tait-Baxter will be joined by violinist Nicola Loud and pianist Viv McLean, making a welcome return to Amersham. Together, the trio will perform music by Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert, beginning a season that celebrates exactly what the Concert Club has done so well for six decades: bringing outstanding musicians and wonderfully varied music to local audiences.

And if you’ve never been to one of the Club’s concerts before, perhaps its 60th anniversary is the perfect time to start.

These are intimate performances where the connection between musicians and audience is part of the experience. Alongside playing, performers share something of their knowledge and love of the music — making the concerts equally welcoming for devoted classical music followers and those simply curious to hear exceptional musicians perform close to home.

And there’s plenty more to come this season.

October brings oboist Ewan Millar and pianist Tomos Boyles, two talented young musicians supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, followed in November by pianist Jamie Cochrane, supported by the Tillett Trust, performing music by Schubert, Schumann and Chopin.

There’s an extra treat in January when celebrated saxophonist Jess Gillam comes to Amersham with her Ensemble Trio for an eclectic evening spanning everything from baroque to jazz. Then in February, the Adderbury Ensemble String Quartet continues the season with Beethoven, Fanny Mendelssohn and Scandinavian folk music arranged by the Danish String Quartet.

But first, it all begins with Echoes of the Rhine.
